Which is better – Cannon or Lasalle Style?

Downhole Cable Protectors for Instrumentation Cable

Personally, I am a fan of the Cannon cable protection system for protecting downhole instrumentation systems that we sell and install.

In my mind, it’s hard to beat the strength of Cannon’s stamped fabrication process using forged metals, their unbelievable commitment product delivery, and their willingness to make customized products.

I’ve used Lasalle clamps on a couple of occasions. One advantage that I liked is that the clamp is set with a set screw (which was not removable) versus a taper pin, which could fall down the wellbore. We always use a bib to cover the wellbore hole and this hasn’t been a problem.

Why?

Cannon are great for onshore wells, but subsea you should go for stronger designs as for example Lasalle or Roxar. Especially if you expect that your completion may hang in the riser while rig/vessel are exposed to bad weather.
